William Heughan was born in 1886 in Dalbeattie, Scotland, the son of a blacksmith in Water Street.

He became a world renowned opera singer and, in later life, the Estate Manager of the MacRobert Estate in Aberdeenshire, where he won many prizes for cattle breeding.

He set up the William Heughan Associated Special Trust in December 1956 to remember his home town of Dalbeattie.

Today, the purpose of the Trust is to support the young people, old people and the community in general.
